WHAT MIRROR ARE YOU LOOKING INTO?

A common attraction at funfairs and carnivals is the distorting mirrors.  I have had so much laughter looking at the distorted, even frightening reflections of myself in these mirrors.

Well, our experiences and the culture of society have given us many of these distorting mirrors. We see reflections of ourselves in them everyday, especially in this social media saturated culture. Unfortunately, many have become so used to these reflections they forget that the reflections are not true.

I find it quite intriguing that the face is the primary means of identifying a person, yet we can see our own face only as a reflection in a mirror. I discovered that there is great wisdom behind this mystery of creation.

Genesis 1:27 holds the key:  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

You and I are created to reflect God’s spirit essence, His nature, character and attributes as a mirror does. Being the mirror reflection of God is the hallmark of our identity. However, the secret to becoming this mirror reflection is that we have to be always looking into God’s mirror. No other mirror will give us a true picture of who we really are.

The Perfect Mirror of God’s Word

God has given us His Word as the perfect mirror to look into.

James 1:22-25 TPT

Don’t just listen to the Word of Truth and not respond to it, for that is the essence of self-deception. So always let his Word become like poetry written and fulfilled by your life! 23If you listen to the Word and don’t live out the message you hear, you become like the person who looks in the mirror of the Word to discover the reflection of his face in the beginning. 24You perceive how God sees you in the mirror of the Word, but then you go out and forget your divine origin. 25But those who set their gaze deeply into the perfecting law of liberty are fascinated by and respond to the truth they hear and are strengthened by it—they experience God’s blessing in all that they do!

James 1:2- NKJV

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Psalm 119:18 TPT

Open my eyes to see the miracle-wonders hidden in your word.

Thoughts for Reflection

  1. What mirrors have you been looking into?
  2. How much time do you spend looking into the perfect mirror of God’s Word?
  3. Are you inclined to forget what you see in the mirror of the Word?
  4. How can you ensure that you fix your gaze on what you see in the Word so that you become a doer of the Word and not just a hearer?

From My Heart to Yours

I bless you with freedom from every identity distortion created by mirrors of culture, family, peers, and past experiences. May you be transformed from one degree of glory to another as you fix your gaze on the mirror of God’s Word. I bless you to reflect the image of your Heavenly Father as a mirror does. You are blessed in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
